Youngblood Cosmetics: The Ultimate Mineral Make-Up

by Jaclyn Ferrara

Recently, I was given an invitation to check out the Youngblood mineral cosmetics collection at The Plaza Hotel beauty department. I decided to take along my two sixteen year old cousins to test out some products and hopefully coax one of them into getting a make over!

The Youngblood line is different from other make-up lines because it is mineral based; milled into a fine powder which reflect light off the skin. I already use mineral foundation, but it doesn’t leave my skin feeling like the Youngblood line does. The products work great with all different types of skin tones, especially those with acne or rosacea. Recently I have been into organic beauty products and although I am not sure how natural the Youngblood line is, I love the fact that there are no synthetic ingredients, artificial fragrances, preservatives or talc. No animal testing either! Sounds good to me!

Youngblood’s mineral line is supposed to withstand heat, humidity, and perspiration. Go figure it was 105 degrees out in Manhattan, so there was no time like the present to take the make-up to the streets! Christina was my lucky make over candidate, so Youngblood’s expert put her in the chair and went to work.

Doesn’t she look gorgeous?! Looks so natural and her skin felt so soft. Just looking at the entire line, you can see that there are no harsh or dark colors. The collection is meant to give you an effortless look.

You can see how natural her make-up is compared to my mineral make-up (I’m in the middle) that clearly makes me look shiny, and not in a good way!

After our trip to the Youngblood’s make up station at The Plaza Hotel, we went for lunch and hit the shopping stores hard! Four hours later, we had enough and stopped to reflect on Christina’s Youngblood make over. The humidity and hot wind of Midtown did not do much to her skin. Her eye make up was still vibrant and her skin looked flawless. Bravo Youngblood; we were impressed!

The iPhone Fashion Shoot - Lee Morris Shoots With The 3GS Fstoppers

Thanks to @techiewife, I’ve stumbled onto a great video!

This video is simply amazing! It goes to prove that it really isn’t the camera you use, but the experience you have in lighting and the elements. Plus, it’s definitely more points for iPhone! I’ve been using my iPhone now to take pics on the go, and sometimes depending the lighting, it comes out amazing with some minor color adjustments.

Day 1 - Write An Elevator Pitch #31DBBB

Key Concepts:

  • Doing so helps to focus your blog.
  • Good to have different lengths of pitches.
  • Try to solve a problem or need.
  • Define your audience and keep it clear, short, and intriguing.
  • In creating the pitch, brainstorm keywords related to your blog.

Questions:

  1. What is your short elevator pitch?
  2. Did completing this task change your blog, or change the way you think about your blog?

My thoughts? Well this was an easy task because I’ve already painstakingly went through several elevator pitches and scenarios before settling with my current pitch and tagline. This blog is a bit more democratic now than when it first started. I welcome the opinions of contributors and guest bloggers, as long as it still conforms to the general feel of the site

The current tagline is “more than just a pretty blog, but a lifestyle…,” and it implies the discussion of feminine topics, yet at the same time differentiating itself from other female oriented blogs by adding the blogging-as-lifestyle twist (where the topic of Social Media comes into play, such as, of microblogging service like Twitter.)

1. What is your short elevator pitch?

Fashion & Lifestyle Meets the Digital World

2. Did completing this task change your blog, or change the way you think about your blog?

This is my existing short pitch. At the time when I tried to condense what the blog should be about, I thought about what I like to write about and what my readers wanted to read about. This task helped me meet a happy middle.
